Rest in the Busy

Life has been busy lately. Brian’s schedule has been full with work and my schedule has been full with kids, home, and birthday planning. We were feeling a little distant and knew we needed a date night. We’re not always up for getting a babysitter and going out though. We’re just kind of lazy with doing that but we love date nights and try to have them at least once every two weeks.

While I was out shopping for birthday supplies, I picked up a new soft comfy throw blanket ($15 Costco). My honey baked homemade pumpkin bread and got the kids down while I was out.

We were able to have an amazing date night. It was just as simple as sitting in front of the fireplace, snuggled up with our new blanket and eating pumpkin bread. We were going to play a board game or cards but decided to just sit there and do nothing.

It is so refreshing to slow down and find rest in the midst of busyness. God desires for us to rest in His presence. In a culture that is always focused on the busy and the next best thing, it is humbling to slow down and find thankfulness in the here and now.

I am so thankful for our busyness right now. I’m thankful that we aren’t stressed because we are trusting him to sustain us through this time. He has given us both so much peace. I’m thankful for my three love bugs who I get to love on daily. I’m thankful for the loads of laundry and dirty table. I’m thankful for the gift of my family and home that God has given me. And I’m so extremely thankful for finding rest in a time of busyness and allowing the simple dates to reconnect with my husband.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

-1 Thessalonians 5:18
